Metal News

Great White is currently in the studio recording a new CD, to be called Back to the Rhythm, feature the original line-up. The CD should see the light of day in August.
Guitarist/Keyboardist Michael Lardie is producing.

Thomas Vikström, former vocalist for Candlemass, has joined Therion. He is replacing Mats Leven. The band explained the change as a desire to shift direction.

Sweden's Manninya Blade have reformed. The obscure thrash band released one album back in 1986, before reforming as Hexenhaus for four albums. Although the original album hasn't weathered the years particularly well, it was considered very avant-garde at the time. Mike Wead (Mercyful Fate/King Diamond) was a member of the band (twice!), although he never recorded with them. The new line-up is: singer Leif Eriksson, guitarists Nicke Johansson and Jerry Rutstrom, bassist Jan Lindberg and drummer Andreas Lindmark.

Concert News and Programming Note

April Wine and Kim Mitchell will be playing a free concert in Kingston on Friday, June 29.
Proceeds from T-shirt sales will go toward the new Regional Sports and Entertainment Centre (known locally as "Rosen's Folly").

April Wine alway put on a great show, as does Mitchell, so it should be a great evening.

Programming Note: This upcoming Saturday, June 30, CFRC will be powering down their transmitter from 7p.m. for 24 hours. This of course means that Tapping the Ether will not be heard. I apologize for any inconvenience, and the show will be back on the following week.

Since I won't be on the air, I would like to wish all my listeners a great Canada Day and/or Independence Day weekend, depending on which side of the border you are on.

The show was pretty much programmed on the fly tonight, as I left all my CD's at home by mistake and had to rely solely on the station library. Luckily the run of new releases is still going strong.

Visions of Atlantis...Wing-shaped Heart

The exciting new releases of the week included Symphony X, Visions of Atlantis, and Serenity. Keep an ear out for more from them in the coming weeks.

The version of "Lavender" that we played came from a radio-only called "The Story So Far" and is the version that was released as a single. It's only available on compilations which is what I linked to. The original version is from Misplaced Childhood, and is much different (though still excellent)

Evenly split between old and new, famous and obscure. This has to be one of the best summers yet as far as new music.

Both Mystery and the new Dream Theater are getting good responses, and personally I really like the new Virgin Black. Count on all three bands appearing on the show throughout the summer!
